Having difficulty conceiving a child can be heartbreaking, and it’s important to understand that you’re not alone. According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 8 couples experience infertility. If you think you may have an infertility issue, you should visit a fertility specialist as soon as possible. But what are the symptoms of infertility that can help you recognize when it is time to seek professional help?

Common Signs of Infertility
The most common signs of infertility in women include irregular periods, pain or discomfort during ovulation, excessive bleeding during menstruation, and abnormal cervical mucus. Other signs include frequent miscarriages or difficulty getting pregnant after 12 months of trying. If any of these symptoms sound familiar to you, it’s best to contact your doctor right away to discuss your options.

For men, the most common sign of infertility is low sperm count or poor sperm motility (the ability for sperm cells to swim). Other signs can include erectile dysfunction, abnormal ejaculation frequency or volume, and changes in testicular size or shape. It’s important for men experiencing any of these symptoms to visit a fertility specialist as soon as possible so they can get tested for male factor infertility.

When To See A Fertility Specialist

If either partner experiences any of the above symptoms, then it’s time to see a fertility specialist as soon as possible—even if it's just been 6 months since you started trying. Early detection is key when it comes to treating infertility issues; by seeing a specialist early on in your journey towards conception, they will be able to provide you with better advice on how to proceed with treatment options such as medication or IVF (in-vitro fertilization). Additionally, talking with an experienced fertility doctor can provide much needed emotional support during this difficult time.

Understanding the symptoms of infertility is essential when trying to conceive a child. If either partner experiences any irregularities or abnormalities related to their reproductive health—especially if those issues persist over several months—it’s important that they make an appointment with a fertility specialist right away. Early diagnosis and treatment increases your chances for success in achieving pregnancy—and having peace of mind along your journey towards parenthood. With the proper guidance from an experienced doctor and emotional support from family and friends (or even other couples going through similar struggles), navigating this difficult time will be made much easier!
